CBT or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy What is it?
The C in CBT is ‘Cognition’ Which means ‘Thinking’
The B is the ‘Behaviour’ or what we do as a result of what we think about. Or Action that we take!
And Finally, the T is ‘Therapy’ Which is another term for Counselling or working on our problems.
CBT Counselling Therapy is a focused or structured type of Counselling, which focuses very much on the ‘Here and Now’ or the ‘Present Moment’
The emphasis tends to be on the ‘thoughts’ and the ‘behaviour’ in equal measures.
The good news is … it works! It’s tried and tested!
Research shows that CBT is the most effective way of turning problems around, and quickly.
Person Centred Counselling, by contrast, is more of a casual style of approach, and of course, you can talk about whatever you wish to talk about, and that is fine for some people. If that is what you want, I’m a qualified Person Centred Counsellor too. I’m not knocking Person Centred Counselling. However; We have to acknowledge that you can spend the full counselling hour talking about whatever you wish in counselling, and you are of course in charge of what you share and when, and how.
Person Centred Counselling vs CBT Therapy/Counselling.
The CBT approach is a little more structured. We may list what is holding you back and decide between us, which problems you would like to work on? And then begin focusing on that particular problem, until you are happy with the resolution. You will know when you are happier with the outcome when you feel better about it. Furthermore; you will become more focused too, and you will want to make good headway regarding your own problem as much as I do.
I’m sure that you would like to reach a resolution to your problem in the shortest time possible. However; always working at a pace that suits you.
